WINTER 2011-12: The season featured a positive NAO and AO index. The temperature in December averaged 42.6F and was 5.7F above normal. The month ranked as the 3^rd warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 2001. The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with above normal temperatures.  Only 3 days averaged near or below normal. There were 17 days with maximums of 50F or higher and 4 days with maximums of 60F or higher. Temperature extremes included 61F on the 11^th and 23F on the 19^th. The temperature in January averaged 37F and was 5.4F above normal. The month ranked as the 4^th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 1990. The month was also the 3^rd consecutive month with above normal temperatures.  Eight days averaged near or below normal. There were 11 days with maximums of 60F or higher and 2 days with maximums of 60F or higher. Temperature extremes included 64F on the 7^th and 13F on the 4^th. The temperature in February averaged 35.1F and was 5.2 degrees above normal. The month tied with February 2006 as the 13^th warmest such month.  Twelve days averaged near or below normal. SPRING 2012: The temperature in March averaged 51.4F and was 8.0F above normal. The month ranked as the warmest such month on record and the warmest since 2010. The month was also the 5^th consecutive month with above normal temperatures.  Only 3 days averaged below normal. The biggest departures occurred around mid-month with temperature departures as high as 26 degrees above normal. Twenty-five days out of the month had maximums of 50F or higher. There were 9 days with maximums of 70F or higher. Temperature extremes included 80F on the 23^rd and 25F on the 6^th.  The temperature in April averaged 58.4F and was near normal (only .03F above normal). The month tied with April 2009 as the 10^th warmest such month on record. The month was also the 6^th consecutive month with above normal temperatures.  Ten days averaged near to below normal of which most of the days occurred during the last week of the month. SUMMER 2012: The temperature for June averaged 71.5F and was 1.7 degree below normal. The month tied with June 1995 as the 10^th coolest such month on record. The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with below normal temperatures. There were 16 days with temperatures above normal and 14 days with temperatures near to below normal.  There were 13 days with maximums of 80F and higher and 6 days with maximum of 90F and higher. Temperature extremes included 96F on the 21^st and 51F on the 5^th.

The temperature for July averaged 79.4F and was 0.9 degree below normal. The month ranked as the 4^th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 1993. The month was also the 3^rd consecutive such month with below normal temperatures. There were 8 days with temperatures near or below normal. There were 13 days with maximums of 90F and higher and 1 day with a maximum of 100F or higher. Temperature extremes included 101F on the 18^th and 62F on the 20^th.

The month also ranked 9^th warmest such month on record and the 3^rd consecutive such warmest month.  There were 11 days that temperatures averaged near or below normal. There was only one day with maximums of 90F or higher and 12 days with maximums of 80F and higher. Temperature extremes included 92F on the 1^st and 50F on the 25^th.

The temperature in October averaged 58.8F and was 0.8 degree above normal. The month tied with October 20110 as the 5^th warmest such month on record.  There were 91 days that temperatures that averaged near or below normal. There were 7 days with maximums of 70F and higher and 2 days with maximums of 80F and higher. Temperature extremes included 84F on the 15^th and 35F on the 13^th.

PRECIPITATION

WINTER 2011-12: Precipitation in December continued in December with 5.00 inches recorded.  The month ranked as the 10^th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1981. The month was also the 5^th consecutive month with above precipitation.  The most received in a 24-hour period was 1.78 inches on the 7^th. In January, precipitation ended in January with 3.08 inches recorded for the month.  The month ranked as the 14^th driest such month on record and the wettest since 1994. The most received in a 24-hour period was 1.08 inches on the 12^th. Precipitation in February totaled 3.94 inches and ranked as the 11^th wettest such month on record and the driest since 1986. The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with above normal precipitation. There were 8 days with measurable precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.81 inches on the 24^th and the 25^th.  Snowfall was below normal with only 4.5 inches.  The month ranked as the 1th least snowiest such month and the least since 1997. The most received in a 24-hour period was 3.0 inches on the 21^st.

The trend of below normal precipitation continued in April with a total of 3.02 inches. The month ranked as the 12^th driest such month and the driest since 1994. The month was also the 5^th consecutive such month with below normal precipitation. The most received in a 24-hour period was 2.68 inch on the 22^nd-23^rd. Precipitation in May totaled 5.89 inches and ranked as the 8th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1998. The month also ranked as the 2^nd consecutive such month with above normal precipitation. The most received in a 24-hour period was 1.52 inches on the 21^st.

The period Oct-Nov ranked as the 4^th driest such period on record with 3.72 inches.  This is the driest such period since 1991.
