AUGUST 2011: The temperature averaged 75F and was 1.5F degrees below normal. The month ranked as the 17th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 1981. The month was also the 3rd consecutive such month with above normal temperatures. Twelve days averaged near or below normal. There were only 2 days with maximums of 90F or higher. Nine days had maximum below 80F. Temperature extremes included 92F on the 1st and 58F on the 29th.
The month features record precipitation with 15.52 inches and ranked as the wettest such month on record (since 1977) and the wettest since 1990. The most to fall in a 24 hour period was on the 14th with 4.72 inches and was a non-tropical system. This was more than Hurricane Irene produced in a 24 hour period with 4.10 inches. There were 21 clear days and 4 overcast day.
