AUTUMN 2012: The temperature in September averaged 69.5F and was 0.7 degree below normal. The month tied with September 2008 as the 9th warmest such month on record (since 1977). The month also ranked 9th warmest such month on record and the 3rd consecutive such warmest month.  There were 11 days that temperatures averaged near or below normal. There was only one day with maximums of 90F or higher and 12 days with maximums of 80F and higher. Temperature extremes included 92F on the 1st and 50F on the 25th.

The temperature in October averaged 58.8F and was 0.8 degree above normal. The month tied with October 20110 as the 5th warmest such month on record (since 1977).  There were 91 days that temperatures that averaged near or below normal. There were 7 days with maximums of 70F and higher and 2 days with maximums of 80F and higher. Temperature extremes included 84F on the 15th and 35F on the 13th.

The temperature averaged 44F and was 4.38 degree below normal. The month ranked as the 8th coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since 1986.  There were 16 days that temperatures that averaged below normal and 14 days that averaged near or above normal. There were 3 days with maximums of 60F and higher. Temperature extremes included 69F on the 13th and 29F on the 6th.

Temperatures for the season averaged 57.4F and ranked as the 14th warmest such season and the warmest since 1988.  Autumn 2012 also was the 9th consecutice such season with above normal temperatures.

Precipitation in September totaled 4.23 inches and tied with September 1978 as the 13th wettest such month on record and the 3rd consecutive such month with above normal precipitation. Most of the month’s rainfall fell during the first 18 days of the month. The most received in a 24-hour period was 1.24 inches on the 4th.

Precipitation in October totaled 3.02 inches and ranked 15th driest such month on record and the driest since 1999. Most of the month’s rain fell at the beginning and end of the month. The most received in a 24-hour period was 1.09 inches on the 29th-30th.

Precipitation in November totaled only .70 inches and ranked as the dries t such month on record and the driest since 2001. The month rankled as the 4th consecutive such month with below normal precipitation. Most of the month’s rain fell on the 27th with .50 of an inch which was also the most received in a 25 hour period. Snowfall was also above normal with 5.0 inches. The most received in a 24 hour period was 4.0 inches on Nov. 7-8th. There were 20 clear days and only 4 overcast days.

Precipitation for the season totaled 7.95 inches and ranked as the 8th driest such season on record and the driest since 1998. The period Sep-Oct. a total of 7.25 inches of rain was recorded and ranked as the 5th wettest such period on record. The period Oct-Nov ranked as the 4th driest such period on record with 3.72 inches.  This is the driest such period since 1991.
