DECEMBER 2009:

The month featured a strong negative NAO and a mostly positive PNA index. The average temperature was 35.5F and was 1.4F below normal. The month tied December 2002 as the 10th coldest such month on record (1977). Temperature extremes included 68F on the 3rd and 15F on the 29th. Seventeen days averaged near or below normal. There were 7 days with maximums of 50F or higher and only 1 day with maximums above 60F. There was only 2 day with a maximum 32F or lower (normal is 4). There was 19 days with minimum of 32F or lower.  

Precipitation totaled 6.69 inches and ranked as the 3rd wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1996. The most received in a 24-hour period was 2.00 inches on the 9th. Snowfall was also above normal with 8.5 inches. Snowfall was 4.3 inches above normal. The most received in a 24-hour period was 7.0 inches during the 19-20. There were 19 clear days and 5 overcast days.
