The pattern was dominated by a positive PNA and NAO. The temperature in January 2015 averaged 28.6 degrees and was 3.4F below normal.  The month ranked as the 12th coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since last year. The month was similar to January 2014 with an average temperature of 28F. There were 14 days with near or above normal temperatures. There were 11 days with maximums of 40F and higher and 12 days with minimums of 32F or lower. Temperature extremes included 53F on the 4th and 6F on the 8th.                

Precipitation totaled 4.87 inches and was 133% of normal. The month ranked as the 14th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1992. The month was also the 2nd consecutive such month with above normal precipitation and the 4th consecutive month with above normal precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 2.078 inches on the 18th. Snowfall was above normal with 16.9 inches and was 7.4 inches above normal. The month ranked as the 8th snowiest such month on record and the snowiest since 1977.  The month was also the 2nd consecutive such month with above normal snowfall. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 10.1 inches on the 27th-28th. There were only 9 clear days and 9 overcast days.
