MAY 2012: The pattern featured a negative to neutral NAO and a negative AO index. 

The temperature averaged 65.9F and was 1 degree above normal. The month tied with May 1980 as the 6th warmest such month on record (since 1977). There were 28 days with temperatures above normal.  There were only 20 days with maximums of 70F and higher, 7 days with maximum of 80F and higher and 1 day with a maximum of 90F and higher. Temperature extremes included 91F on the 29th and 49F on the 11th.         

Precipitation totaled 5.89 inches and ranked as the th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1998. The month also ranked as the 2nd consecutive such month with above normal precipitation. The most received in a 24-hour period was 1.52 inches on the 21st. There were 12 clear days and 11 overcast days.
