OCTOBER 2009:

The month featured a generally negative NAO and a positive PNA index. The average temperature was 55.6F and was 2.4F below normal. The month ranked as the 11th coldest such month on record and the coldest since 1977. The month was also the 2nd consecutive month with below normal temperatures. The month was also the 2nd consecutive such month with below normal temperatures. Temperature extremes included 79F on the 22nd and 36F on the 19th.Seventeen days averaged above normal. There were 5 with maximums of 70F or higher.  

Precipitation totaled 6.50 inches and ranked as the 5th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1983. Much of the month was dry with most of the precipitation falling during the last week of the month. The most rain to fall in a 24-hour period was 2.20 inches on the 24th. There were 13 clear days and 7 overcast days.
