The month featured a positive NAO and PNA index. The average temperature was 66.3F and was 3.8F below normal. The month tied with September 1997 as the 4th coldest such month on record (1978). The month was the 2nd consecutive such month with below normal temperatures. Temperature extremes included 84F on the 5th and 48F on the 30th. Fourteen days averaged above normal. There were 6 with maximums of 80F or higher and 0 days with maximums below 70F.  

Precipitation totaled only 1.80 inches which contrasted with the past 5 months of above normal precipitation. The month tied with September 1990 as the 3rd driest such month on record. Most of the rain fell on the 26-27 when 1.18 inches was recorded. The 1.18 inches was also the most recorded in a 24-hour period. There were 6 days with measurable precipitation. There were 22 clear days and only 4 overcast days.
