Spring 2001:March 2001 ranked as the 7th such coldest month on record since 1977 and the coldest since 1993. March was also the 6th consecutive such month of above normal temperatures. In April, the pattern consisted of a trough in the West and a ridge in the East. This caused temperatures in April to average above normal.
