SPRING 2020: The temperature for March averaged 47.4°F and was 5.2°F above normal.  The month ranked as the 14th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 2016.  The month was also the 2nd consecutive month with above normal temperatures.  Only 7 days averaged near or below normal. There was only 4 day with minimums of 32°F or lower (normal is 14) There were none with maximums of 32°F or lower (normal is 1).  There were 23 days with maximums of 50°F and higher and 10 days with maximums of 60°F and higher and 3 days with maximums of 70°F and higher. Temperature extremes included 78°F on the 20th and 23°F on the 1st.

 

The temperature for April averaged 49.7°F and was 1.5°F below normal.  The month ranked as the 3rd coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since 2018.  Only 10 days averaged above normal. There was only 1 day with minimums of 32°F or lower.  All days had maximums below 70°F.  There were 16 days with maximum of 60°F or lower and 4 days with maximums of 50°F or lower.  Temperature extremes included 68°F on the 28th and 31°F on the 17th.

 

The temperature for May averaged 60.5°F and was 2.3°F below normal.  The month ranked as the 5th coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since 2008.  The month was also the 2nd consecutive month with below normal temperatures and also the 2nd consecutive such month with below normal temperatures.  Only 9 days averaged above normal. There was 15 days with maximums of 70°F or above and 6 days of 80°F or higher.  Temperature extremes included 88°F on the 15th and 33°F on the 9th.    

The season’s temperature av52.6°F and ties with 1980 and 2000 as the 17th coldest such season on record.  Temperature extremes included 88°F on May 13th and 23°F on Mar 1.  There were only 5 with minimums of 32°F and lower.    

Precipitation for March totaled 4.89 inches and was .75 of an inch above normal. The month ranked as the 14st wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1997. The month was also the 3rd consecutive month with above normal precipitation. Precipitation fell on 12 days of the month with the most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.98 inches on the 23rd. Snowfall was well below normal with only a trace recorded (normal is 5.8”).  The month tied with March 1979, 86, 95, 2000, 02 08, and 10 as the least snowiest such month on record.  The month was the 3rd consecutive such month with below normal snowfall.  The most received in a 24-hour period was a trace on the 23rd.

 

Precipitation for April totaled 4.51 inches and was .63 of an inch above normal. The month ranked as the 15th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1986. The month was also the 3rd consecutive month with above normal precipitation. Precipitation fell on 14 days of the month with the most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.81 inches on the 13th which is a new record for the day.

 

May’s precipitation totaled 1.96 inches and was 2.06 inches below normal (44%). The month ranked as the 8th driest such month on record and the wettest since 1987. Precipitation fell on 12 days of the month with the most to fall in a 24-hour period was .60 inches on the 23rd.

 

Precipitation for the season totaled 11.36 inches and ranked as the 14th driest such season on record and the driest since 1988.  The period April-May precipitation totaled 6.47 inches and ranked as the 14th driest such season and the driest since 1991.
