SUMMER 2013: The temperature in June averaged 73.3 degrees and tied with June 1989 as the 8th warmest such month on record (1977). The month was also the 3rd consecutive such month with below normal temperatures. Six-teen days averaged above normal. There were 10 days with maximums below 80F and 5 days with maximums above 90F or higher. Temperature extremes included 96F on the 24st and 52F on the 14th.
The temperature in July averaged 80.5 degrees and was near normal. The month ranked as the 2nd warmest such month on record (1977). The month was also the 4rd consecutive such month with above normal temperatures. Seventeen days averaged above normal. There were 14 days with maximums of 90F and above and 3 days with maxims of 100 degrees. There were also 2 days with maximums of 80F or lower. Temperature extremes included 100F on the 19th and also on the 17th and the 18th. The lowest temperature of the month was on the 30th with 62 degrees.
The temperature in August averaged 74.1 degrees and was 4.6 degrees below normal. The month ranked as the 8th coldest such month on record (1977) and the coldest since 1994. June continued where May left off with above normal precipitation (8.85 inches). The month ranked as the 3rd wettest such month on record and the wettest since 2003. The month was also the 2nd consecutive month and the 3rd consecutive month with above normal precipitation. This occurred when a front and the remnants of tropical storm Andrea affected the area.
July started where June left off with heavy rainfall which accumulated to 1.95 inches and was the most to fall in a 24-hour period. This was 52 percent of the monthly precipitation. After the 1st of the month, rainfall was more sparse and lighter. Rainfall for the month totaled 3.76 inches and ranked as the 16th driest such month on record.
