WINTER 2014-15: The pattern was dominated by a positive PNA and NAO. The temperature for December 2014 averaged 39.9 degrees and was 1.4F above normal.  The month ranked as the 10th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 1996. The month was also the 4th consecutive such month with above normal temperatures. There were 13 days with near or below normal temperatures. There were 90 days with maximums of 60F and higher and 1 days of 70F or higher. There were 16 days with minimums of 32F and lower and no days with maximums of 32F and lower. Temperature extremes included 71F on the 1st and 22F on the 8th.

The pattern was dominated by a positive PNA and NAO. The temperature in January 2015 averaged 28.6 degrees and was 3.4F below normal.  The month ranked as the 12th coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since last year. The month was similar to January 2014 with an average temperature of 28F. There were 14 days with near or above normal temperatures. There were 11 days with maximums of 40F and higher and 12 days with minimums of 32F or lower. Temperature extremes included 53F on the 4th and 6F on the 8th.

The temperature in February 2015 averaged 23.2F and was 10.8F below normal.  The month ranked as the coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since 1979. The month was also the 2nd consecutive such month with below normal temperatures. Only one day averaged above (the 8th).  There were two days with maximums of 40F or higher.  There were 28 days with minimums of 32F or lower. There were 22 days with minimums below 20F and 9 days with minimums of 10F or lower. There were 16 days with maximums of 32 or lower.  Temperature extremes were 42F on the 22nd and 1F on the 20th.  This was the coldest minimum for the day since 1979 and the coldest since January 1988.

The season tied with the winter 1995-96 as the 3rd coldest such season on record. The season was also the 2nd consecutive such season with below normal temperatures.

Precipitation totaled 5.31 inches and was 135% of normal. The month ranked as the 11th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1981. The month was also the 11th consecutive such month with above normal precipitation and the 3rd consecutive month with above normal precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.68 inches on the 9th. Snowfall was below normal with only .3 of an inch. There were 13 days with measurable precipitation.

Precipitation totaled 4.87 inches and was 133% of normal. The month ranked as the 14th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1992. The month was also the 2nd consecutive such month with above normal precipitation and the 4th consecutive month with above normal precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 2.078 inches on the 18th. Snowfall was above normal with 16.9 inches and was 7.4 inches above normal. The month ranked as the 8th snowiest such month on record and the snowiest since 1977.  The month was also the 2nd consecutive such month with above normal snowfall. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 10.1 inches on the 27th-28th.

Precipitation totaled 2.10 inches and was 61% of normal. The month ranked as the 14th driest such month on record and the driest since 1987. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.30 inches on the 22nd. Snowfall was above normal with 11.1 inches and was 1.2 inches above normal. The month ranked as the 13th snowiest such month on record and the snowiest since 1993.  The month was also the 2nd consecutive such month with above normal snowfall and the 2nd consecutive month with above normal snowfall.

Precipitation for the season totaled 12.28 inches and ranked as the 11th wettest such season in record and the wettest since 2002-2003.  The period Jan-Feb. 2014 precipitation totaled 6.90 inches and ranked as the 23rd driest such period on record and the driest since 1988 and 7th consecutive driest such period with below normal precipitation. Snowfall totaled 28.3 inches and ranked as the 14th snowiest such season on record and the snowiest since 12003-04.
