WINTER 2016-17:  December’s temperature averaged 37.2F and was 1.3F below normal.  The month ranked as the 15th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 2003.  Fifteen days averaged near or above normal. There were 8 days with maximums of 50F or higher and 1 day with a maximum of 60F and higher. There were 3 days with maximums of 32F or lower and 20 days with minimums of 32F or lower. Temperatures extremes included 61F on the 27th and 15F on the 16th.  

 

The temperature in January averaged 37F and was5.0F above normal.  The month tied with 2012 as the 4th warmest such month on record.  Only 7 days averaged below normal. There were 22 days with maximums of 40F and higher, 7 days with maximums of 50F or higher and 2 day with a maximum of 60F and higher. There were only 3 days with maximums of 32F or lower. Temperatures extremes included 66F on the 12th and 10F on the 9th.   

The temperature in January averaged 40.4F and was 6.4F above normal.  The month ranked as the 2nd such month on record and the warmest since 2012.  Only 2 days averaged near or below normal. There were 13 days with maximums of 50F and higher, 7 days with maximums of 60F or higher and 1 day with a maximum of 70F and higher. There were only 17 days with minimums of 32F or lower and there were no days with maximums of 32F or lower. Temperatures extremes included 72F on the 24th and 15F on the 10th.

 

The season averaged 38.2F and ranked as the 4th consecutive warmest such season on record. Temperature extremes included 72F on Feb. 24 and 10F on Jan. 10.

 

SPRING 2017: March was a strange month it averaged 38.8F and was 6.1F below normal.  It was also the coldest month since January.  The month tied with March 2005 as the 8th coldest such month on record (since 1977).  Only 9 days averaged above normal. There were 13 days with maximums of 50F and higher, 4 days with maximums of 32F or lower and 17 days with minimums of 32F or lower. Temperatures extremes included 71F on the 1st and 12F on the 5th.

 

The temperature in April averaged 56.9F and was 3.9F above normal.  The month ranked as the second warmest such month on record and the warmest since 2010.  Twelve days averaged near or below normal. There were 9 days with maximums 70F or higher and 5 days with maximums of 80F or higher.

 

The temperature for May averaged 60.9F and was 5.8F below normal.  The month ranked as the eight coldest such month on record and the coldest since 2002.  Only 6 days out of the month averaged above normal. There were 5 days with maximums 80F or higher and 3 days with maximums of 90F or higher and 2 days of 60F or lower.  The weather was changeable with a high of 97Fon the 18th and 52F on the 13th.

 

The spring season averaged 52.2F and ranked as the 13th coldest such season on record and the coldest since 2013.

 

SUMMER 2017: The June temperature averaged 72.7F and was 1.9F below normal.  The month ranked as the 15th coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since 2015.  The month was the second consecutive month with below normal temperatures. Twelve days averaged above normal. There were 5 days with maximums of 90F or higher and 9 days with maximums of 80F or lower.  Temperature extremes included 98F on the 13th and 59F on the 7th.

 

The July temperature averaged 77.4F and was 3.4F below normal.  The month ties with July 2005 as the 15th coldest such month on record.  The month was the third consecutive month with below normal temperatures. Eleven days averaged above normal. There were 10 days with maximums of 90F or higher and 6 days with maximums of 80F or lower.  Temperature extremes included 98F on the 20th and 60F on the 30th.

 

Temperatures in August averaged 77.2F and was 4.5F below normal.  The month tied with August 1989 as the 9th coldest such month on record.  The month was the fourth consecutive month with below normal temperatures. Seven days averaged above normal. There were only 2 days with maximums of 90F or higher.  There were and 4 days with maximums of 80F or lower.  Temperature extremes included 93F on the 1st and 68F on the 26th

 

The seasonal temperature averaged 74.8F and ranked as the 14th coldest such season on record and the coldest since 1999.

 

Fall 2017: Temperatures in September averaged 71.1F and was -0.5F below normal.  The month tied with September 1983 as the 4th warmest such month on record (since 1977).  The month was the fourth consecutive such month and consecutive month with below normal temperatures. Sixteen consecutive days averaged above normal (13-28). There were only 3 days with maximums of 90F or higher.  Temperature extremes included 92F on the 24th and 51F on the 29th

 

In October temperatures for the month averaged 63.9F and was 4.2F above normal.  The month ranked as the warmest such month on record and the warmest since 2007. Eleven days averaged near or below normal. There were 22 days with maximums of 70 and higher and 7 days with maximums of 80F and high. Temperature extremes included 86F on the 5th and 39F on the 17th.

 

November’s temperatures averaged 45.9F and was 3.7F below normal.  The month ranked as the 17th coldest such month on record and the coldest since 1982. Ten days averaged above normal. There were 7 days with maximums of 60 and higher and 8 days with maximums of 50F and lower. Temperature extremes included 79F on the 3rd and 23F on the 11th.

 

The season averaged 60.3 and tied with autumn 2015 as the warmest such season on record.

 

The year averaged 56.1F and tied with 1991 as the 6th warmest year on record. The year was also the third consecutive year with above normal temperatures.

Snowfall was also below normal with just 6.8 inches. The month ranked as the 19th least snowiest such month on record.  The month was also the 4th consecutive such month with below normal snowfall. There were only 2 clear days and 15 overcast days.

 

Precipitation in February totaled 2.38 inches recorded and ranked as the 16th driest such month on record and the wettest since 1982. There were 5 days with measurable precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was .88 of an inch on the 9th. Snowfall was also below normal with 19.1 inches. The month ranked as the 17th least snowiest such month on record and the least since 2001.  There were 7 clear days and only 8 overcast days.

 

Precipitation for the season totaled 9.83 inches and tied with 1999 as the 17th driest such season on record and the driest since 2011-12. The period Jan-Feb. precipitation totaled 7.00 inches and ranked as the 24th driest such season on record and the driest since 2015, It was also the 9th consecutive such period with below normal precipitation.

 

Snow was below normal with 19.1 inches.  The season ranked as the 19th least snowiest such season on record.

 

SUMMER 2017: Precipitation in June totaled 3.70 inches and was .35 on an inch below normal. The month ranked as the 17th driest such month on record and the driest since 1984. There were 13 days with measurable precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.26 inches on the 23-24th.  There were only 10 clear days and 6 overcast days.

 

In July, precipitation totaled 3.30 inches and was .97 on an inch below normal. The month ranked as the 16th driest such month on record and the driest since 2012. There were 12 days with measurable precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.31 inches on the 7th.  There were only 8 clear days and 7 overcast days.

October’s precipitation totaled only 4.00 inches and was .28 of an inch above normal. The month ranked as the 16th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1984. Most of the rainfall fell on the 29-30th with 3.12 inches. Before then, precipitation was light and sparse with only .88 of an inch.  The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 3.12 inches on the 29-30th. There were 11 clear days and only 8 overcast days.
