TEMPERATURE

WINTER 2014-15: The pattern was dominated by a positive PNA and NAO. The temperature for December 2014 averaged 39.9 degrees and was 1.4F above normal.  The month ranked as the 10^th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 1996. The month was also the 4^th consecutive such month with above normal temperatures. There were 13 days with near or below normal temperatures. There were 90 days with maximums of 60F and higher and 1 days of 70F or higher. There were 16 days with minimums of 32F and lower and no days with maximums of 32F and lower. Temperature extremes included 71F on the 1^st and 22F on the 8^th.

The temperature in January 2015 averaged 28.6 degrees and was 3.4F below normal.  The month ranked as the 12^th coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since last year. The month was similar to January 2014 with an average temperature of 28F. There were 14 days with near or above normal temperatures. There were 11 days with maximums of 40F and higher and 12 days with minimums of 32F or lower. Temperature extremes included 53F on the 4^th and 6F on the 8^th.

The temperature in February 2015 averaged 23.2F and was 10.8F below normal.  The month ranked as the coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since 1979. The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with below normal temperatures. Only one day averaged above (the 8^th).  There were two days with maximums of 40F or higher.  There were 28 days with minimums of 32F or lower. There were 22 days with minimums below 20F and 9 days with minimums of 10F or lower. There were 16 days with maximums of 32 or lower.  Temperature extremes were 42F on the 22^nd and 1F on the 20^th.  This was the coldest minimum for the day since 1979 and the coldest since January 1988.

The season tied with the winter 1995-96 as the 3^rd coldest such season on record. The season was also the 2^nd consecutive such season with below normal temperatures.

SPRING 2015: The temperature in March 2015 averaged 36.9Fand was 8F below normal. The month ranked as the 2nd coldest such month on record (since 1977) and the coldest since 1984. The month was also the 2nd consecutive month with below normal temperatures and also the 4th consecutive such month with below normal temperatures. Only 9 days averaged near or above normal. There were two 9 days with maximums of 50F or higher and 1days with maximums of 60F. There were 20 days with minimums of 32F or lower. Temperature extremes were 60F on the 11th and 60F on the 6th

The temperature in April 2015 averaged 53.7F and was +0.7F above normal.  The month ranked as 16^th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 1986. Fifteen days averaged below normal. There were 8 days with maximums of 70F or higher, 1 day with maximums of 80F and higher, and 2 days with minimums of 32F or lower.  Temperature extremes were 82F on the 18^th and 31F on the 1^st and 2^nd.

The temperature in May 2015 averaged 68.4F and was +1.7F above normal.  The month ranked as 2^nd warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 1991. The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with above normal temperatures and the 2^nd consecutive month with above normal temperatures. Twelve days averaged near or below normal. There were 22 days with maximums of 75F and higher and 4 days with maximums of 90F and higher (normal is 1). There were 8 days with minimums of 50F or lower. Temperature extremes were 94F on the 26^th and 44 on the 2^nd.

The temperature for the season averaged 53F and ranked as the 20^th coldest such season on record and the coldest since 2008.  The season was also the 2^nd consecutive coldest such season.

SUMMER 2015: The temperature in June 2015 averaged 71.9F and was -2.7F below normal.  The month ranked as 15^th coldest such month on record and the coldest since 2002. Eleven days averaged near or above normal. There were 2 days with maximums of 70F or lower and 7 days with maximums of 90F and higher (normal is 5). Temperature extremes were 96F on the 23^rd and 49 on the 2^nd.

The temperature in July 2015 averaged 78.5F and was -2.4F below normal.  The month tied with July 1980 ranked as 10^th warmest such month on record. Twenty-one days averaged near or below normal. There were 12 days with maximums of 90F or higher (normal is 9). There were 17 days with minimums below 70F. Temperature extremes were 98F on the 20^th and 62 on the 17^th.

The temperature in August 2015 averaged 77.7F and was 1F above normal.  The month ranked as the 4^th warmest such month on record and the warmest since 1988. Sixteen days averaged near or below normal. There were 13 days with maximums of 90F or higher (normal is 6). There were 38 days with daily average temperatures of 77F or higher.

The average temperature for summer 2015 is 76F and was -0.7F below normal.  The season tied with the summers of 2012 and 2013 as the 8^th warmest such season on record.

AUTUMN 2015: Temperatures in September averaged 73.1F for the month and ranked as the warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 2005. The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with above normal temperatures. Only 4 days averaged near or below normal. There were 8 days with maximums of 90F or higher (normal is 1).

Temperature for October 2015 averaged 56.7F and was 3F below normal. The month tied with October 1991 as the 16^th warmest such month on record. The month was also ranked 6^th consecutive such month. Eleven days averaged above normal. There was 1 day with a minimums of 32F or lower.

November averaged above normal with a temperature of 51.2F and was 1.6F above normal. The month ranked as the 5^th warmest such month on record (since 1977) and the warmest since 2009. Eleven days averaged near or below normal. There were 5 days with maximums of 70F or higher and 4 days with minimums of 32F or lower.  Temperature extremes were 79F on the 3^rd and 36F on the 24^th.

The temperature for the season averaged 60.3F and was the warmest such season on record and was also the 12^th consecutive such season on record.

The year averaged 55.7F and tied with 1983 as the 9^th warmest year on record.

RECIPITATION

WINTER 2014-15: Precipitation totaled 5.31 inches in December and was 135% of normal. The month ranked as the 11^th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1981. The month was also the 11^th consecutive such month with above normal precipitation and the 3^rd consecutive month with above normal precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.68 inches on the 9^th. Snowfall was below normal with only .3 of an inch. There were 13 days with measurable precipitation.

Precipitation in January totaled 4.87 inches and was 133% of normal. The month ranked as the 14^th wettest such month on record and the wettest since 1992. The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with above normal precipitation and the 4^th consecutive month with above normal precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 2.078 inches on the 18^th. Snowfall was above normal with 16.9 inches and was 7.4 inches above normal. The month ranked as the 8^th snowiest such month on record and the snowiest since 1977.  The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with above normal snowfall. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 10.1 inches on the 27^th-28^th.

Precipitation in March totaled 2.10 inches and was 61% of normal. The month ranked as the 14^th driest such month on record and the driest since 1987. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.30 inches on the 22^nd. Snowfall was above normal with 11.1 inches and was 1.2 inches above normal. The month ranked as the 13^th snowiest such month on record and the snowiest since 1993.  The month was also the 2^nd consecutive such month with above normal snowfall and the 2^nd consecutive month with above normal snowfall.

Precipitation for the season totaled 12.28 inches and ranked as the 11^th wettest such season in record and the wettest since 2002-2003.  The period Jan-Feb. 2014 precipitation totaled 6.90 inches and ranked as the 23^rd driest such period on record and the driest since 1988 and 7^th consecutive driest such period with below normal precipitation. Snowfall totaled 28.3 inches and ranked as the 14^th snowiest such season on record and the snowiest since 12003-04.

SPRING: Precipitation totaled 3.84 inches in March and was 88 percent of normal. The month ranked as the 17th driest such month on record and the driest since 1999. The month was also the 2^nd consecutive month with below normal precipitation.  The month was also the 4th consecutive such month with below normal precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was .79 of an inch on the 14^th. Snowfall was also above normal with 16.0 inches and was 10.8 inches above normal. The month ranked as the showiest such month on record and the snowiest since 1984.  For the season snowfall totaled 45.8 inches and was 15.9 inches above normal. The season ranked as the 6th snowiest such season on record and the most since 2007.  The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 7.0 inches on March 5^th.

Precipitation in April totaled 2.23 inches and was 53% of normal. The month ranked as the 7^th driest such month on record and the driest since 1995. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.50 inches on the 20^th.

Precipitation in May totaled 2.50 inches and was 56% of normal. The month ranked as the 8^th driest such month on record and the driest since 1987. Most of the month precipitation was sparse and light. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.60 inches on the 31^st.

Precipitation totaled 8.57 inches and ranked as the 4^th driest such season on record and the driest since 1992. The period Apr.-May precipitation totaled 4.73 inches and ranked as the 4^th driest such season on record and the driest since 2008. Snowfall for March totaled 16.0 inches. The month ranked as the showiest such month on record and the snowiest since 1984. The season ranked as the 6th snowiest such season on record and the most since 2007.  The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 7.0 inches on Mar. 5^th.

SUMMER: Precipitation in June totaled 5.73 inches and was 141 percent of normal. This is a marked change from a dry Mat with 2.50 inches. The month ranked as the 7^th wettest such month on record and the driest since 1985. The month ranked as the 4^th consecutive such month with above normal precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.44 inches on the 15^th. There were only 3 clear days and 11 overcast days.

Precipitation in July totaled 2.78 inches and was only 65 percent of normal. The month tied with July 1980 as the 12^th wettest such month on record and the driest since 2013. So far this summer, precipitation has been variable.  Precipitation was above normal in June and above normal in July. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.28 inches on the 1^st. There were only 8 clear days and only 3 overcast days.

Precipitation totaled in August continued the trend of July with below normal precipitation. A total of 1.74 inches of rain was recorded and was 45 percent of normal. The month ranked as the 6^th driest such month on record and the driest since 1988. August was also the 2^nd consecutive month with below normal precipitation and the 4^th consecutive such month with below normal precipitation. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was .84 inches on the 11^th. There were only 15 clear days and only 1 overcast days.

Precipitation totaled 10.25 inches for the season and was 1.36 inches below normal. The season ranked as the 14^th driest such season on record and the driest since 2010.

There was a total of 32 days with maximums of 90F or higher (normal is 20). There were a total of 26 clear days (normal is 35). There were also a total of 15 overcast days (normal is 25).

AUTUMN: Precipitation was sparse in September.  Half the month little precipitation fell. Precipitation totaled 2.53 inches of rain was recorded and was only 56 percent of normal. The month ranked as the 12^th driest such month on record and the driest since 1986. The most to fall in a 24-hour period was 1.15 inches on the 10^th.

The year ranked as the 11^th coldest year on record averaging 54Fand the coldest since 1995. Precipitation totaled 58.20 inches and ranked as the 4^th wettest year on record and the wettest since 2003. Snowfall was also above normal with 60.3 inches.

Precipitation totaled 39.33 inches and ranked as the 7^th such driest year on record and the driest since 1980.
